What is double glazing?
A double glazed window has two panes of glass sealed together with a gap between them, usually filled with argon gas. The gap slows heat escaping, so the room stays warmer, the glass feels less cold, and less condensation forms. It also cuts outside noise and is harder to break through than a single pane.
The sealed glass sits in a frame of uPVC, aluminium or timber, and the frame matters as much as the glass: it decides the look, the upkeep and much of the price. Double glazing is standard on new and replacement windows in the UK, and replacements must meet Building Regulations for energy efficiency, which a FENSA or CERTASS registered installer certifies for you.
